The Buckley Lab Sea ice and polar oceans, observed from above

Welcome Rose and Kay!

This fall, two new PhD students joined the Buckley Lab: Rose Malanga and Kay Sivaraj. Both arrived with a strong foundation in remote sensing and have already dug into new corners of our group’s work.

Rose holds a B.S. in Geological Sciences and Environmental Science from Tufts University and an M.S. in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Sciences from Boston University. She’s interested in using optical and SAR data to study ice shelves and mélange in Antarctica, and is also working on understanding isotopes in sea ice cores and CTD casts. Read more on her bio page.

Kay comes to us from Tamil Nadu, India, with a background in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Geology from Michigan Technological University. She’s working on a NASA Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) project validating ICESat-2 against commercial satellite data, alongside a broader interest in optical and SAR remote sensing of sea ice, glaciers, and ice islands. Read more on her bio page.

Welcome to the lab, Rose and Kay!
